What is Holistic Psychotherapy?

Therapy + counseling that honors all parts of you.

The term "holistic" has been sweeping across the world, promising therapies that will help you overcome anything from trauma to autoimmune disease to spiritual wounds. We hear convincing testimonials about those who have been able to shed their existential baggage and remarkable stories of those who have recovered from a terminal illness. You are curious to learn more about holistic health but are also afraid of being tricked into pseudoscience that will leave you feeling hopeless yet again.

While the word "holistic" is used by spiritual leaders, coaches, and other helping professionals to describe an array of healing tools, licensed psychotherapists who consider themselves holistic are required to provide evidence-based treatments. Offering treatments that are not backed by scientific rigor is unethical and for licensed professionals. With that being said, we'd like to share more with you about how we do holistic therapy at Boketto Center.

At Boketto Center, holistic psychotherapy is a blend of humanistic, integrative, and somatic (body-based) therapies. Humanistic therapists believe that people can achieve their highest potential. They also believe that their clients are "good enough" and that the human spirit can overcome any of life’s traumas. We understand that therapy doesn't work in a bubble, so we work integratively with other holistic practitioners to nurture your mind, body, and spirit.

Recent research has shown the impacts of the mind-body connection on overall health. For example, the ACES Study shows that childhood trauma (such as divorce, abuse, and neglect) leads to poorer health outcomes and increases in chronic disease. To fully heal from depression, anxiety, trauma, or any other mental health symptoms, a holistic therapist will dive deeply into your biology, psychology, sociology, and spirituality. All of our therapists offer different body-based therapies including mindfulness, meditation, somatic processing, trauma-informed yoga, art therapy, and EMDR.

The most crucial piece of the puzzle in holistic psychotherapy is you! Holistic therapy incorporates your unique needs, preferences, and ways of being in the world. While we offer a well-rounded approach to your healing, your specific desires and goals will shape all the work done in the therapy room (or teletherapy meeting).

If you're ready to dive into your deepest desires to feel healthy and balanced in your life, schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation. We are excited to partner with you in your growth and well-being.
